Nokia 9 Won’t Sport a 4GB RAM Variant, Tips US FCC Listing: Report

There have been reports making the rounds of the Internet claiming that HMD Global will be launching its Nokia 9 flagship smartphone later this year. We have stumbled upon Nokia 9 FCC listing as well as GeekBench listing in the past, revealing some tidbits about the device. Now, a new report has claimed that HMD Global may ditch 4GB RAM model that has been previously spotted in favour of a higher RAM model.

NokiaMob.net has come across a US FCC document that suggests HMD Global, the company that owns the right to Nokia brand, has requested to transfer all “test results and permits” from the TA-1004 model, possibly the Nokia 9 variant with 4GB RAM, to TA-1012, which is likely a 6GB RAM model of the phone. The document further reveals that the company plans to market the earlier certified TA-1004 as TA-1012. HMD Global stresses that there has been no change that will affect the test results of FCC tipping that the company just changed the memory on the said device.

Nokia 9 Won't Sport a 4GB RAM Variant, Tips US FCC Listing: ReportThe preliminary leaks have claimed that Nokia 9 may sport 6GB of RAM, or 8GB of RAM based on two separate GeekBench listings – it’s possible two variants may be launched.

As far as other specifications are concerned, the Nokia 9 flagship smartphone is said to feature a 5.5-inch QHD display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC, dual 13-megapixel cameras at the back, and also have a dual-LED flash support as well. The device is also said to come with a 13-megapixel front camera as well and pack 64GB of inbuilt storage with no clarity on external storage support. There has been no word on the battery capacity on the handset but it is said to support Qualcomm Quick Charge 4.0.

Unfortunately, there is no word when HMD Global plans to launch the Nokia 9, and the first markets where the phone will go on sale.

OnePlus 5 Camera Specifications Revealed, Press Render Leaks Ahead of Today’s Launch

After many leaks and teasers, the OnePlus 5 is set to go official on Tuesday. Hours before the launch, the leaks continue to flow, and we now have a full-fledged press render leak showing us the back and front of the OnePlus 5, revealing key design details. Furthermore, a video released by The Verge talks about the thought process gone in making the smartphone, and even confirms its camera specifications.

OnePlus 5 camera

The OnePlus 5 camera is at the centre of The Verge’s video on the smartphone, which includes executives talking about thought process gone into making the handset. The video starts with glimpses of the OnePlus factory in Shenzhen and how things work there. While competitors like Apple and Samsung are moving towards a bezel-less display, OnePlus says that it still lacks the resources to do that. Hence, it focuses on building a camera that competes with the best in the market.

While procuring the hardware for a dual camera setup was difficult, OnePlus managed to do so with the help of its sister company Oppo. The video confirms that the OnePlus 5 sports two rear sensors at the back – one main 16-megapixel Sony sensor with f/1.7 aperture and another 20-megapixel Sony telephoto lens with f/2.6 aperture. In the video, OnePlus claims that this is “the highest resolution dual-camera system on a smartphone today.” The company also notes that there is a portrait mode, and that 80 percent of the camera’s success is because of the work put into its software, and that this will be the differentiating factor for the smartphone.

Now coming to the press render leak, noted tipster Evan Blass has shared this latest image of the OnePlus 5. It is seen sporting a dual camera setup at the back with the OnePlus logo sitting in the centre. The antenna bands placement and the overall form appears to be heavily inspired by the iPhone 7 Plus design aesthetic. In the front, there is a Home Button seen at the bottom of the display, and this is where the fingerprint scanner will presumably be placed. There’s no bezel on the left and right edge of the smartphone, but the top chin is visible with the front camera and earpiece. The power key sits on the right edge of the smartphone while the volume and switch keys sit on the left edge.

OnePlus 5 Camera Specifications Revealed, Press Render Leaks Ahead of Today's LaunchOnePlus 5 launch event, specifications

As for leaked specifications, the OnePlus 5 is expected to sport a 5.5-inch full-HD (1080×1920 pixels) display – though a QHD display has also been rumoured in the past – with a range of DCI-P3 colours to ensure colour accuracy. 6GB and 8GB of RAM variants are expected, with their corresponding 64GB and 128GB inbuilt storage options.

At front, the smartphone has been tipped to come with a 16-megapixel sensor. OnePlus 5 has been tipped to house a 3300mAh battery and come with NFC and Bluetooth 5.0 support as well. In a series of tweets, the global Twitter handle of OnePlus has teased few more features like “always connected”, which could be a hint at dual-SIM support on the OnePlus 5. In another tweet, the company teased improved Dash Charge capabilities of the OnePlus 5. It wrote, “charging ahead.”

Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Launch Said to Be Set for Late-August

Tech giant Samsung Electronics plans to hold a launch event in New York City for its next Galaxy Note smartphone in the second half of August, a person familiar with the matter told Reuters on Tuesday.

The person, who was not authorised to speak publicly on the matter and so declined to be identified, said the Galaxy Note 8 will sport a curved screen that is marginally larger than the 6.2-inch version of the Galaxy S8 smartphone and feature two rear cameras. The Galaxy Note 7 was equipped with a 5.7-inch curved screen and one rear camera.

The person did not elaborate further on the phone including pricing. A Samsung Electronics spokesman declined to comment.

Samsung is intent on continuing the premium Note series despite the costly collapse of the Galaxy Note 7, which it was forced to scrap roughly two months from launch in October due to fire-prone batteries. The incident, one of the biggest product safety failures in tech history, cost the firm KRW 6.1 trillion ($5.4 billion or roughly Rs. 34,803 crores) in operating profit and hurt its credibility.

Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Launch Said to Be Set for Late-AugustThe firm disclosed its preliminary findings in January that different battery problems from two suppliers caused the fires, which was corroborated by two other independent probes. The firm implemented several steps including a new set of battery safety checks to avoid repeat incidents, which analysts said is helping it win back consumer trust.

Strong initial response for the Galaxy S8 smartphones that began selling in April indicate the firm is recovering quickly, with some analysts forecasting the device to set Samsung’s internal sales records and push the firm towards what is widely expected to be its best-ever profit for April-June. There have been no battery fire incidents reported for the S8.

Counterpoint Research estimates Samsung regained its spot as the top global smartphone maker in the first quarter after ceding the spot to arch rival Apple in the previous quarter. Apple is widely expected to unveil its next iPhones by October.
