Reliance Jio Still Sharing Your Call Information With Foreign Countries, Warns Anonymous India
Anonymous claims Jio apps are leaking call data to foreign companies
The group has identified My Jio and Jio Dialer apps as the culprits
Reliance denies these allegations put forth by Anonymous
There’s no stopping the juggernaut that is Reliance Jio from making headlines. However, the circumstances are a bit different today. Hackers from the infamous hacking group Anonymous have claimed that Reliance Jio apps are leaking user call data to foreign countries.

Anonymous India (@redteamin ) claims that Reliance Jio is sending this data to companies in the US and Singapore and has also listed a step-by-step guide for anyone to verify this themselves.

While we haven’t been able to verify this ourselves, the group has informed certain media outlets that the My Jio and Jio Dialer apps are the ones sending this information to an ad network called Mad-Me. The group further elaborates that the data being sent across to these overseas companies is encrypted, which means there’s lesser chance of someone intercepting these packets.

The hacker group has also posted a screenshot that allegedly proves the data is being set overseas. “From the above it is clear that Jio app is using third party SDK and not verifying what data the SDK is collecting and where it is sending. This violates the [sic] user privacy,” claims Anonymous.
In response to this allegation, Jio Infocomm (RJIL) told Gadgets 360 in an emailed statement, “Jio takes its customers security and privacy very seriously. In keeping with its highest standards of governance, Jio does not share its customers’ data with any other entity. Any information captured by Jio is only for internal analysis to deliver better quality of service and recommend offerings from Jio’s product portfolio.”

Little more than a year ago, Anonymous called out RJIL for sending unencrypted data from the Jio Chat app to servers located in China. This charge was immediately denied by the company, terming it “unfounded and malicious allegations against the Jio Chat App.”

RJIL further elaborated, saying, “This is a common practice for any app wishing to provide location-based services within China. However, when used Globally, Jio Chat (outside of China) always uses Google Maps.”

WhatsApp Tells Delhi High Court Its New Policy Doesn’t Infringe on User Privacy

WhatsApp Tells Delhi High Court Its New Policy Doesn't Infringe on User Privacy

WhatsApp, the instant messaging platform, Wednesday said its new privacy policy does not infringe on the privacy of users and no third party can read the messages due to its end-to-end encryption.

When a user deletes his or her WhatsApp account, the information of that person is no longer retained on its servers, the company claimed before the Delhi High Court.

WhatsApp, which is opposing a petition challenging its new privacy policy, told a bench of Chief Justice G Rohini and Justice Sangita Dhingra Sehgal that a message is deleted from its server after it is delivered to the recipient and they may keep it on its server for upto 30 days, only in case the message is not delivered.

It said that if the message is undelivered even after 30 days, it is deleted.

Senior advocate Pratibha M Singh, who was appearing for petitioners Karmanya Singh Sareen and Shreya Sethi, opposed the contention, saying WhatsApp was not giving “any choice at all” to the users so that their information is not shared on Facebook.

“They (WhatsApp) should give a full opt-out option to the users from their information being shared with Facebook and they should not be allowed to use the information for any purpose without the consent of the user,” she said.

Singh also sought that the information of such users, who completely opt out of WhatsApp, should be deleted from the servers.

“What will happen if a user completely deletes WhatsApp,” the bench asked senior advocate Siddharth Luthra, appearing for WhatsApp.

“We are only concerned about the users who will opt out saying they do not want to accept the terms and conditions of the new policy. We do not want to go into other issues,” the bench told Luthra.

Responding to this, Luthra said “no data will be shared if the user opts out. When you (user) will delete WhatsApp account, the undelivered messages will be deleted. We will retain nothing.”

The bench said it would pass appropriate order on September 23 on the PIL against the recent WhatsApp decision to share user data with parent company Facebook.

WhatsApp had made extensive changes to its privacy policy on August 25, the first time since it wasacquired by Facebook, giving users the option of sharing their account information with the social network giant. It gave its users 30 days till September 25 to opt out of the policy.

During the hearing, the petitioners told the bench that there was a “stark contrast” in the contentions advanced by WhatsApp as it has claimed that it does not retain messages, but on the other hand, they were saying they can keep messages for a longer period of time to improve performance.

They also opposed WhatsApp’s claim that nothing would be shared with Facebook.

In its affidavit filed in the court, WhatsApp has said, “To improve performance and deliver media messages more efficiently, such as when many people are sharing a popular photo or video, WhatsApp may retain that content on its servers for a longer period of time.”

Regarding end-to-end encryption, it has said that neither WhatsApp, nor any third party can read the users messages and the only person who can read it is the recipient to whom the message is sent.

“When a user deletes his/her WhatsApp account, his/her undelivered messages are deleted from WhatsApp’s servers as well as any of the user’s other information. WhatsApp no longer needs to operate and provide the WhatsApp services,” the messaging platform has said in its affidavit.

WhatsApp had on September 14 opposed in high court the plea which alleged that privacy of its users have been threatened by a new privacy policy announced by Facebook, saying regulations were in place and the latter does not have access to any data as it provides end-to-end encryption.

The plea has also sought a direction to prohibit WhatsApp, Facebook Inc and Facebook India Online Pvt Ltd from sharing, in any manner, details and data of every kind of subscribers with any entity including Facebook or its family of companies.

iMessage Gif Search on iOS 10 Throws Up Porn Results; Apple Scrambles to Fix

iMessage Gif Search on iOS 10 Throws Up Porn Results; Apple Scrambles to Fix

  • Gif search in iMessage seems to give inappropriate results
  • Less provocative keywords are also throwing NSFW results
  • Apple is swiftly cleaning the gif search to eradicate porn

There’s a huge problem with iMessage in iOS 10 that has come to light and Apple is doing everything to fix it as soon as it can. Apparently, iOS 10 is surfacing porn gifs in iMessage, and innocent search words like ‘huge’ and ‘bounce’ are giving out rather NSFW inappropriate results.

This was first spotted by Deadspin’s Kyle Wagner, who apparently was served with animated My Little Pony porn when he searched for the word ‘butt’ in the default gif search of Messages. Soon after, the word ‘huge’ was also found to throw up some uncensored gif image results.

While Apple has already blocked many obvious adult words to weed out porn, but it evidently didn’t anticipate porn to surface through words like ‘huge’ and apparently – ‘butt’. In any case, the team atApple is aware about the issue and is steadfastly cleaning up its search. Apple is doing everything it can to rectify the misstep, and words like ‘porn’, ‘huge’, ‘butt’ are now blocked in iMessages gif search, and shows no results. Presumably, this issue is because Apple must be pulling gifs from third parties like Giphy, and did not anticipate porn to filter in (or so we think).

As for iMessage in iOS 10, it’s got a major overhaul with a brand new Messages app that supports new emoji centric features for social play, and brings the addition of an app drawer for third-party integration.

Some of the features include the Digital Touch handwriting feature that allows sending handwritten messages to other users, who will receive it in an animated manner. The chat app now also lets you emote through text bubbles, by choosing options like shout, whisper, and more.

What do you think of the new iMessage app? Let us know in the comments below.

Facebook Open Sources Its Object Recognition Machine Vision Software

Facebook Open Sources Its Object Recognition Machine Vision Software

Facebook has decided to make its set of vision software tools, used for object recognition in images, available to everyone by open sourcing the project. The set of tools, DeepMask, SharpMask, and MultiPathNet, were developed by the Facebook AI Research team and essentially work towards a process called segmentation to recognise objects by their shapes in images.

The research team has decided to share their research papers and demos along with the code for the tools with everyone in expectation “that they’ll help rapidly advance the field of machine vision,” it said in its blog on Thursday. The team further said that it will continue to publish its latest results and will update the open source tools we make available to the community.

All three of the research team’s tools work in collaboration in order to distinguish objects and identify their type. In its blog, Facebook AI Research team said that the advancement in visual recognition technology helps visually challenged people in recognising the content of images that have no captions associated with them, without needing external help. The company rolled out this feature to its iPhone app in April.

Going ahead, the company says its goal is to “enable even more immersive experiences that allow users to ‘see’ a photo by swiping their finger across an image and having the system describe the content they’re touching,” it said in its blog.

Interestingly, the team is working towards applying these recognition techniques to videos as well.

Huawei Flagship Smartphones to Come With Truecaller Preloaded From September

  • Huawei flagship devices to come preloaded with Truecaller
  • Truecaller says app being used to make calls half a billion times a month
  • Truecaller to roll out to Huawei devices in India by September end

Truecaller on Friday announced it has partnered with Huawei. As a part of this collaboration, Huawei’s flagship phones will now come preloaded with the Truecaller app, starting with the Honor 8.

“Truecaller will be rolled out on Huawei mobile phones in America, Middle East & North Africa, South East Asia & India by end of September 2016,” the company said in itsblog on Friday.

Truecaller said the app has optimised to work seamlessly with all the devices it will come preloaded on. Apart from making calls, the app will also let users search for numbers, block spam calls, check availability, and call duration.

The company also highlighted in its blog that four months after the integration of its Truedialer app and its dialler features into the main Truecaller app, around half billion calls are being made per month through the inbuilt dialler in the Truecaller app.

“Our vision of how the dialler should naturally evolve – with features like caller Availability, Caller ID, and smart call history, provide a gateway for user’s to fully communicate with each other at the right time and to the right person,” Truecaller said in the post.

Truecaller rolled out an update last month for iOS that added important features to the app like Smart Call History and a built-in dialler that allowed users to make calls from within the app. However, the iOS app – currently at version 7.0 – still lacks an important functionality, there is still no really Live Caller ID feature identical to the one available on Android.

In an emailed statement, Nami Zarringhalam, co-founder & Chief Strategy Officer at Truecaller, said,”Our partnership with Huawei is a big milestone and is the first of its kind that has only scratched the surface of the immense potential that is yet to be discovered with Truecaller.”

George Zhao, President of Honor, said, “As we were planning the launch of our flagship device Honor 8, we were looking for partners who can truly redefine the user experience, Truecaller was an obvious choice to help improve the native calling functions. They provide an indispensable service for millions of users each day. We are joining hands to ensure that respective brands get the best of both worlds.

How to Save YouTube Videos to Watch Offline

Frankly speaking the amount of content available on YouTube is staggering, and more is being added literally every single minute of every single day. With all those videos out there, many have found that they are able to spend hours going over the ones that interest them – though for most people there are at least a couple of videos that they end up watching over and over again.

It could be a particular music video that you enjoy, or it may be a funny video of a cat – the point is that if you have a particular video (or several) that you watch regularly, why not save it so that you can watch it offline? By saving the video, you will be able to watch it without an internet connection, and can even transfer it over to your mobile devices as well to convert MOV to MP4

Although YouTube itself doesn’t allow you to save your videos directly, the trick is to use Movavi Screen Capture Studio. As screen capture software, it will let you rip YouTube video by recording it as it is playing on your screen. If you want to try that, just follow these steps:

  1. Start Movavi Screen Capture Studio and select the ‘Capture screen’ option in the main menu.
  2. Reposition and resize the yellow capture frame to encompass the YouTube video.
  3. Check that the ‘System Audio’ icon has a green tick, and click it once otherwise.
  4. Press ‘REC’ to start recording and play the video at the same time.
  5. Press ‘Stop’ when the recording is complete and click ‘Save’ to save it.

As you save the YouTube video you will be able to choose practically any video format that you require. Alternatively you could use one of the presets available to optimize it for a specific device or platform, or save it as an audio file if you only want to keep the audio track.

With the video editing tools that are built in to Movavi Screen Capture Studio you can do even more if you choose to. It can cut and combine segments of video, improve the video quality, include background music, add special effects, and much more. Suffice to say, you could combine several YouTube videos and end up with a professional-looking and attractive compilation video of your very own if you choose to go down that route.

Details of the anticipated cross-platform ‘Office Now’ personal agent or work assistant have also made their way to the Web.Already listed on the Windows Phone Store, OneClip is in internal beta and will work only for Microsoft employees.
